Ambulatory Blood Pressure Monitoring

What is it?

This is a battery-operated monitor that is worn in a pouch around your waist or your neck. The monitor is connected to a cuff wrapped around your upper arm. This measures and records your blood pressure over a 24 hour period.

How is it done?

This monitor is fitted by our Practice Nurse. It is programmed to measure and record your blood pressure every 30 minutes during the day and every 60 minutes overnight for 24 hours. You will be given a record sheet to document your daily activities and any symptoms you experience over this period. When the monitor is returned and downloaded, the data is analyzed and reported by a cardiologist. A copy of the results will be forwarded to you and your referring Doctor. Please allow 30 minutes for this appointment.

What to wear
Please wear a separate loose top as the monitor is fitted under your sleeve and top. You will need to wear clothes that allow you to move freely whilst wearing the monitor and cuff.

Is there any preparation required?

Please shower prior to your appointment as you CANNOT get this monitor and cuff wet or remove them to shower. Your normal daily activities may be slightly restricted as you need to stop moving each time your BP is recorded.
