Holter Monitor
What is it?
A Holter monitor is a portable device that records your heart activity (ECG - electrocardiogram) continuously for 24 to 48 hours whilst you go about your daily activities.
How is it done?
The monitor and lead are attached to your chest via electrode pads. You will be given a record sheet to document your daily activities and any symptoms you experience over this period. Upon return, data is uploaded, analyzed then reported by a cardiologist. This report is emailed to you and your referring Doctor. Please allow 30 minutes for this appointment.
What to wear?
Wear a separate top which covers the upper chest and is easy to remove. A wireless bra is preferable.
Is there any preparation required?
Shower prior - we do not want this monitor wet and you cannot remove it to shower. We may shave your chest for better attachment. You will be asked to avoid certain things to prevent interruption to recordings - an information sheet will be given when your appointment is made.
