Ambulatory Blood Pressure Monitoring

What is it?

Is a battery-operated device that is situated around your waist. It is connected to a cuff around your non-dominant upper arm. This measures your blood pressure for a 24hr period while carrying on with your normal day-day activities.

How is it done?

This blood pressure monitor is fitted by the Practice Nurse at our clinic. They will attach you to a battery-operated device that is situated around your waist. It is connected to a cuff around your non-dominant upper arm and will measure your blood pressure in intervals. 30 Minutes during the day and hourly overnight for a total of 24 hours. A diary will be given to you to record your daily activities but also any symptoms you experience over this period. Once the monitor is returned and downloaded the data is analysed and reported by a cardiologist. A copy of the results will be forwarded to you and your referring Doctor. Please allow 30 minutes for this appointment.

What to wear
Please wear a separate top. You will need to wear clothes that allow you to move freely whilst wearing the Blood Pressure Machine and Cuff.

Is there any preparation required?

Please shower prior to your appointment as you can not remove or get this wet while you are wearing the monitor. Your normal daily activities will be slightly restricted over the 24hr period over this time.
