Ambulatory Blood Pressure Monitoring

What is it?

This test allows us to see how your blood pressure changes throughout the day, as a result of your normal life.

How is it done?

The test uses a small machine that is attached to a blood pressure cuff on your arm. The two parts are small enough that they normally do not interfere with you doing anything you would normally do. You are even able to sleep with the cuff attached. Measurements are recorded and stored every 30 minutes while awake and every 60 minutes when asleep – for a total of 24 hours. The monitor and cuff is then removed and analysed.

We will advise you of specifics, but generally this test requires no specific preparation apart from wearing a loose fitting top which can be easily removed.
