Cardiac Ultrasound / Echocardiogram

What is it?

A cardiac ultrasound is a very simple and non-invasive procedure. It doesn’t take very long and no anaesthetic of any kind is needed. A movie picture of heart chambers and valves is attained by sound wave technology.

How is it done?

The equipment used is very similar to that used when doing an ultrasound of a baby. A trained technician called a sonographer will apply gel to your chest and using the ultrasound machine will record images and live video of your heart. These recordings will allow us to examine your heart and understand your condition better.

Preparation

As with many of our assessments, we will give you specific instructions if needed. Please wear loose fitting comfortable clothing with a separate top that will allow you to move freely and relax.
