Electrical Cardioversion

 

What is it?

Is a medical procedure that restores a normal heart rhythm in people with certain types of abnormal heartbeats (arrhythmias).

How is it done?

Done under sedation and a short general anaesthetic, a small electrical current is introduced to the heart using external paddles. This current can help reset the hearts rhythm, restoring your normal heartbeat. This is normally a day procedure and are likely to be discharged home that evening.

Preparation

This is normally performed at one of the Private Hospitals in Hamilton by your Cardiologist. A full explanation is given, regarding what the procedure entails and what preparation is required prior.
