Holter Monitor

What is it?

A Holter monitor is a portable device that records your heart activity (electrocardiogram – ECG) continuously for 24 to 48 hours.

How is it done?

The holter monitor will record ECG readings as you go about your daily activities. It is fitted by our Practice Nurse. The monitor and leads are attached to your chest via electrode pads. You will be given a record sheet to document your daily activities and any symptoms you experience over this period. Once the monitor is returned and downloaded, the data is analyzed then reported by a cardiologist. A copy of the results will be forwarded to you and your referring Doctor. Please allow 30 minutes for this appointment.

What to wear?

Please wear a separate top which covers the upper chest. You will need to wear clothing that allows you to move freely whilst wearing the monitor and electrodes.

Is there any preparation required?

Please shower prior to appointment as you CANNOT get this monitor wet or remove it to shower. No other preparation is required however occasionally chest hair is removed for better attachment. No aftercare is necessary.
