Holter Monitor

What is it?

The holter monitor is a small, pocket sized ECG device that continuously records the rhythm of your heart.

How is it done?

We will attach the machine, the size of a small cell phone, using small electrodes stuck to your skin. You will then leave the treatment room and go about your daily life. Unlike the cardiac event recorder (which looks for single events with your heart), the holter monitor records your heart rhythm continuously so we can make an assessment of how your life affects your heart. We will normally ask you to keep a record of your activity so that we can match these up to the recording made of your heart.

Preparation

We will let you know if there is anything specific you need to do before the test. Normally there is nothing as the purpose of the holter test is to record normal heart activity in your normal life. Please wear a separate and easily removable top.
