ECG

What Is It?

An ECG- electrocardiogram - is a safe and painless test which normally only takes a few minutes. An ECG is a test of the electrical activity of your heart. It is designed to show if it is working normally.
We read the results of the ECG either as a paper strip or on screen and interpret them to see if there is any abnormal or unusual activity.

How Is It Done?

Using small sticky pads, leads from an ECG machine are stuck to your arms, legs and chest. These record the signals from your heart and send them to the electrocardiograph. The machine produces the print out that we are able to examine to access your heart.

Preparation

It is best to wear loose fitting comfortable clothes that will allow you to relax, with a separate top so this can be easily removed. ECG’s are performed by our practice nurse or doctors.
